IAIDO
Is techniques with the samurai sword and called before for iaijutsu and is a part of kenjutsu.
Iaidô is the art of drawing the sword (Katana), and in the same movement, performing a wreck or block an attack (as opposed to Kenjutsu, which is struggling with a sword already out of the saya). Iaid characterised by technologies that are so fast that an enemy must not allow the defence or to make their attack.
Iai translates as "being present" or "to be ready to face any situation", that is not particularly clarification. A more practical explanation of Iaidô is to simply call it "Japanese art of the sword." The name of Iai, for example, Nukiai, Za-ai, Saya no uchi, Rihô, Battô and so on.
Iaido is the development of coordination, focus and concentration, as well as excellent as mental training.
In Iaido can both girls and boys, adults and young people from around 13 years, to deal with the long samurai sword so-called "katanas" by seeking perfection in movement when you draw the sword, cut, parry or encounter with it. One train with itself under the guidance of an instructor and trying to do all the movements as accurately as possible. It carries out various so-called "catalyst" which is a predetermined path of motion against one or more, invisible, would-be attacker.
An iaido kata can be divided into the following components:
maai (an intuitive
sense of distance)
nuki-tsuke (draw
the sword)
kiri-tsuke (cut)
chiburi (symbolic removal
of blood from the blade)
noto (put the sword back
into saya)
zanshin (mental
follow-up)
One train in this manner series of forms in different ways containing
the said basics. The training is carried out in silence as a kind
of meditation in movements.
Iaido is a sport of concentration and to make the movements as correct
as possible, as their primary objective.
Originally created iaido for use and act in violation and the training
was the battle as its main objective (iaijutsu). Today practice
students the same techniques, but with a different purpose. The
train iaido alone against the supposed opponents under a carefully
determined movement. We train to train up our intuitive responses,
to keep calm in stressful situations, balance, harmony and concentration,
a general interest in Japan, Japanese history, Japanese arms and
samurais.
In Ninbukan Bujutsu Academy we train iaido from ZNKR (Japan Kendofederation)
but also kata from old (koryu) schools (ryuha) like Mugai ryu, Hachiman
ryu Koden Battojutsu and Muso Shinden ryu.
TAMESHIGIRI:
Iis a way to test our cuts on a matt is at a circuit card called the makiwara. We can practise different cuts and other techniques in a more realistic manner and have proof of the technology is effective and powerful.
EQUIPMENT
A beginner needs a Bujutsu-gi, which is the Japanese type of kimono with pants, jacket and a white belt. Later, you can also supplement with the so-called "hakama" which is a kind of wide pants which also practitioners of Aikido for example, are using. A pair of knee protectors are also to recommend when some of the elements can be stressful to the knees.
It also needs a sword that you may have to borrow the club to start with, if you want to try before you buy your own so-called "bokken" which is a wooden sword.
Usually begins iaido training with a "bokken" and you may later change up to a real sword called an "iai-to" and that will cost approximately 3000-12 000 kr. There are also very sharp "real" sword called "Shinken" for advanced practitioners and instructors with less than 10-years of training behind them, but these swords will cost much more money.
TO COMPETE IN IAIDO
If you wish, you can also compete in Iaido after you trained in a few months. In Sweden we have some of Europe's best Iaido-ka (performers).
Training camp and competitions organised several times a year, and our members have taken part in both European- Swedish- and other Championships with several gold, silver and bronze medals as a result.
How will I compete in iaido?
Iaido is judged by the quality of katanas execution. In a contest two contestants perform a series of forms in parallel. The technology performance, concentration and actorising assessed by an uneven number of judges to decide which of the contestant they think will win. At a command from head referee gives all the judges its verdict. On the contestant who receives the majority of the judges' votes goes on in the competition.
Will it be many injuries in iaido?
Since iaido is a very safety sports injuries are very rare. If you train too much you can feel something in your elbows and you also exposed the knees a lot, but this is usually not any big problems when using knee pads and if you do not have bad knees even before you start practicing iaido.
Who can practice iaido?
Anyone can start practicing iaido, only one is sufficiently interested and willing to work hard something physically and mentally. It is never too young or too old.
